Overview of planned route, distances and expected duration
View More“I will arise and go now, for always night and day
I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;
While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey,
I hear it in the deep heart’s core.”
― William Butler Yeats
“Wherever I wander, wherever I rove,
The hills of the Highlands forever I love.”

Cycling the West Coast of Ireland and around Scotland
On this new solo tour I plan to cycle in 6 day stages (around 60 km) from Northern Germany through the Netherlands and Belgium to Dunkerque in France, to take the ferry to Dover. The crossing of south of England and Wales (around 600 km) should be done in 6 further stages. After the crossing of the Irish Sea by ferry I plan to cycle along the wild coast of Ireland in 18 day stages (around 1,700 km) to Bellyferry in Northern Ireland, where I plan to take the ferry to Campbeltown on the Kintyre peninsula in Scotland. I plan to cycle Scotland in 35 days stages (around 3,400 km including 1,000 km for 15 ferry crossings) including the Inner and Outer Hebrides, the Orkney and Shetland Islands, the Highlands and Edinburgh. The way back home should drive me through northeast England to Newcastle (1 day stage or 130km), where I plan to take the night ferry to Ijmuiden, through the Netherlands (2 day stages, around 200 km) and finally Germany (2 day stages, around 200 km).
Planned tour had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
